Thank you for your interest in OuTrop. Established in 1999, the Orangutan Tropical Peatland Project works to protect one of the most important areas of tropical rainforest in Borneo - the Sabangau Forest in Central Kalimantan, Indonesia. We monitor the distribution, population status, behaviour and ecology of the forest's flagship ape species, carry out biodiversity and forestry research, and work with local partners to implement conservation solutions. The Sabangau is the largest area of unfragmented lowland rainforest in Kalimantan which houses the largest contiguous orangutan population in the world. However, the whole ecosystem is still under threat from illegal logging, fire and hunting. 
 
Where does your donation go?

Your money can make a big difference to our projects:

• Funding the patrol team to combat illegal logging and fires.
  
• Building dams to restore water hydrology in the peat-swamp forest and block illegal logging timber extraction routes.
  
• Running a nursery for research into seed germination and seedling growth with the aim to establish techniques for promoting forest regeneration and restoration in disturbed areas.
  
• Funding maintenance and improvements to research site and infrastructure including board walks, camp buildings and equipment.
  
• Collecting information on the behavioral ecology and population density of orangutan, gibbon and red langur in the peat-swamp forests of Central Kalimantan and threats to their survival.
  
• To help fund our felid project which focuses on the Clouded Leopard in particular.
  
• Funding other biodiversity projects within Bornean peat-swamp forests.
